Sophia Chooses a Path.
Sophia is free from the forced seclusion of her people, the ancient and dwindling Elven Fey. Where should she go? The realm is both beautiful and dangerous... with untold adventures awaiting. Triste is a few days travel through the misted woods, or perhaps exploring the Hills of Boralis to the north.
- 1 Triste:Head towards Triste. (Total 10 energy +10 exp)
- Strangers on the Road.
- Sophia decides visiting one of the larger cities in the Elven realm would be a worthy experience. Sophia never had many chances to leave her sancutary due to her bloodline, her wonderlust becomning an obsession... hopefully Triste would prove as exciting as the tales would make it seem.
- Traveling along the road to Triste at night Sophia could see torchlights ahead. She was not sure how to react in this situation, but her instincts told her to use caution. It could be nothing more than friendly travelers willing to share adventerous stories.. or something much worse.
- 2 Walk: Continue walking. (Total 10 energy +10 exp )
- Sophia is captured!
- Sophia approaches the figures ahead on the road, hoping they are simply merchants or perhaps Triste guards. As the fog resides Sophia realizes to her dismay a fully equipped Orc patrol!
- Sophia turns to run away but becomes startled by a loud clamp sound. Sophia looks down to see her leg ensnared by a bear trap! The three Orcs quickly rush her position and bind her arms and legs.
- 3 Continue: Continue! (Total 10 energy +10 exp)
- A mysterious power.
- As Sophia is dragged into an Orcish caged wagon, time seems to come to a crawl. Sophia feels energy crackling around and within her as violet swirls of old magic ripple outwards, slowly building into a massive concussive blast. Within moments the three orcs are hurled out of sight, their charred corpses landing with a distant thud. The wagon is blown apart and her bindings burnt away.
- Sophia takes a moment to rest, feeling completely drained. What just happened? Sophia opens her satchel and begins wrapping the bleeding wound on her side. After the injury is properly secured Sophia notices a decorated skull, some sort of Orcish trophy one of her assailants must have dropped from the blast. Should she take the item?

- Leave the skull.
- Sophia decides taking dark trophies might not be the best course of action. She would not want to find herself in possession of such objects if she happens upon Elven Waywatchers!
- With the Orc threat gone, Sophia is safe to carry onwards to Triste.
- 5 Continue: Proceed to Triste! (Total 10 energy +10 exp)
- Respond to the waywatchers of Triste.
- Sophia arrives at the outskirts of Triste and is immediately assailed by silent figures in the woods surrounding the road. The gates to the city await ahead.
- "Halt traveler, make yourself known." The voice was low, almost a whisper and clearly Elven.
- Sophia responds:
- 6 Speak: I am Sophia! (Total 15 energy +15 exp )
- The waywatchers.
- The Elven Waywatchers slowly linger into view, their bows fully drawn. The green bushes attached to their armor blended them perfectly from view.
- "You are a long way from home my lady" said the one closest to her. With a wave of his hand the others relaxed their tethered bows.
- "I am Lothar, and we welcome the Fey to our fair city.. I must inform you the Orcs are up to something as we have been deterring their scouting parties for some time now... it is not safe for you out here."
- Sophia could feel the chains closing in again. She knew if she went willingly she would be sent back to the sanctuary! However Lothar and his Waywatchers seem very skilled and might be dangerous to confront.
- 7 Follow: Go willingly! (Total 15 energy +15 exp +1)
- The throne of the elven king.
- Lothar escorts Sophia through the city to the Elven King Corelan. The throne room is immaculate and cavernous, built with ancient ornate architecture.
- Corelan stands to greet Sophia, rising to a massive ten feet or more. Large horns adorned with elven platemail protrude from his head adding another 3 feet alone, with long braided hair resting on his back. To his side rests a slender curved blade etched with ancient elven symbols, faintly glowing with power.
- 8 Greet: Greet the king! (Total 15 energy +15 exp)
- The throne of the elven king.
- "Welcome, Sophia of the Fey. You understand you have put your lineage at great risk.. we cannot afford to have your kind extinct.. you are one of the only remaining links to our ancient past." The King looked away for a moment to consider.
- "However I can sense it matters not to you. Forcing you into hiding would send you into despair." The King turned back to Sophia "What is this... I feel.. Old Magic....." The King flicked his hands and Sophia's satchel opens. The Talisman Sophia's mother gave her begins to levitate towards the King.

- The ancient talisman.
- "Hmm yes.. maybe this is a solution dear Sophia of the Fey. This talisman is older than you or I, by thousands of years." The King considered the item in his hands.
- "This item is a soul-binding talisman. We can preserve your very soul... we can keep it safe, bound here in Triste. Should you perish in the wild lands of Valeria we will still have the Fey lineage protected. This would allow you to explore the world without the Realm of Mist intervening." The King looked to Sophia for approval.
- Sophia struggled with the notion... her very soul trapped in a trinket kept by others. A fateful decision would have to be made:
- 10 Give: Give soul! (Total 20 energy +20exp +3)
- The soul binding.
- "Yes my lord... I feel this is perhaps the best course of action, for both of us.. and the future of the Fey."
- "Very well Sophia, come forward." commanded the elven King.
- King Corelan began casting an ancient incantation, which made the amulet come alive with vibrant colors. As he held the amulet closer to Sophia she felt a part of her ripping away, drifting slowly into the amulet. Sophia fell to the floor feeling instantly exhausted.
- "You will need some time to recover Sophia of the Fey, rest here in Triste... and you are then free to go."
- Sophia could not help but wonder if she had done the right thing. A sense of worry, perhaps guilt seemed to linger. She watched as the King and his entourage escort the amulet deeper into the vaults. Free to go at least... free to see the world.
- 10 Refuse: Refuse the king! (Total 20 energy +20exp +3)
- The soul binding.
- "No my liege I am sorry.. this I cannot do." proclaimed Sophia.
- "You dissapoint me my dear, and you dissapoint the entire Elven race. You fail to grasp the importance of your lineage. I cannot force you to stay Sophia, but rest assured we will be watching you very closely."
- The King returned the amulet to Sophia and ordered her out of his chambers. Sophia was at least free now, free to explore the world despite the dangers to come.
- 7 Resist: Resist! ()
- Unleash hidden powers!
- As Lothar moves closer to secure Sophia time seems to come to a crawl.
- Sophia feels energy crackling around and within her as violet swirls of old magic ripple outwards, slowly building into a massive concussive blast. Within moments Lothar and the Waywatchers are sent flying back into the woods. Energy continues to crackle around her blasting the ground with blinding light.

- Through the hills of Boralis After many cold nights of travel through the misted woods surrounding Triste, Sophia seems to be making slow progress. Her energy constantly drained. Traveling the wilds is not as dangerous as her parents had led her to believe! After squeezing through a particularly tough batch of vines Sophia emerges to see she has stumbled onto a massive FOOT!
- As Sophia attempts to step back she only has a moment to realize her doom. A massive club from an enormous giant comes crashing down over the trees!

- Stopped by the Waywatchers !
- The Elven Waywatchers slowly linger into view, their bows fully drawn. The green bushes attached to their armor blended them perfectly from view.
- "You are a long way from home stranger" said the one closest to her. With a wave of his hand the others relaxed their tethered bows.
- "I am Lothar, but I must inform you the city is currently on alert as we clear out the Orcs skirmishing our forces in the woods. Triste is not the most friendliest of places right now, but you may pass." Lothar and the Waywatchers blend back into the forest.

Sophia enters through the gates the Triste and takes a moment to absorb the immensity of the city. Markets, guards, patrons, taverns even performers littered the slender streets, the side buildings all adorned with old elven designs.

Sophia is approached by a weapon merchant and offers her a free gift! He shows her a very ornate and unique elven short bow... however something seems at odds with the man.
"Free to you, my beautiful lady! You look like you could use some extra help! Yes yes yes..."

Sophia is approached by an elven arcane bowyer who curiously eyes her magical bow.
"May I see this weapon my lady? It seems very intriguing.."

- Sophia obtains a rare bow!
- Sophia decides to accept the special gift... certainly it could be useful down the road to protect herself.
- The merchant quickly fades back into the chaos of the street. Sophia slips the bow over her shoulder and carries on.
- Sophia could hear the feignt (sic.) mad-giggling of the man as she proceeded down the terrace.

- Sophia feels hatred overcoming her.. something dark in the back of her mind. Fighting for control she hands a sack of gold to the bowyer.
- The arcane smith goes to work, casting spells through the glowing elven hammer as it strikes at the bow's metal casing.
- Sophia feels the link between the bow and herself break, finally realizing what has happened.
- Dark magic my lady.. you need to take more caution! The bow is yours, and quite exquisite! My name is Elron, do visit me again."
- Sophia nods in thanks, takes the bow and leaves.

- Halted by the elven guards!
- As Sophia continues exploring the splendors of the great city, she becomes stopped by a pair of Elven Guards, wearing brilliant gold and bronze platemail armors. Clearly part of the elite King's guard.
- "Sophia of the Fey, the King has summoned you. If you will please follow us."
- Sophia was confused.. "How do you know who I am?"
- "Word travels fast in Triste my lady, now please, King Corelan is waiting." The guards escort Sophia to meet the King.

- Sophia claims the skull and places it within her satchel. Perhaps it will be useful later? With the Orc threat gone, Sophia is free to continue on to Triste.

- Hide from danger.
- Sophia leaps into the thickets near the road and watches as three hulking and heavily armed Orcs walk by. One of the ::Orcs sniffs into the cold air, his frosty breath drifting off into the night. The Orc grunts to his companions but they seem uninterested. The party continues plodding down the road, their torches barely visible. The coast seems clear.
- 3 Continue: Continue to Triste! (Total 10 energy +10exp)
- An orcish hound approaches!
- Sophia decides the coast is clear! She emerges from the thickets back onto the road. As she continues down towards Triste she is confronted by what seems to be a blood-hound. Its mane was thick and mangled, small chicken skulls adorned its neck. It must be an Orcish pet... how will she get around the hound?
- 4Feed: Give the hound food! (Total 10 energy +10exp -)
- Continue to Triste!
- Sophia quickly grabs the bundle of smoked salmon her mother had given her at the start of her journey. Sophia throws it to the side of the road and the hound immediately leaps off to gorge on the fish. Sophia sneaks around the now distracted hound and once out of earshot quickly runs off into the night, further towards Triste.
- 5 Continue: Continue to Triste. (Total 10 energy +10exp )
- Returns to Respond to the waywatchers of Triste.
- 4Attack : Attack the hound! Uses 5 energy. (Total 10 energy +10exp )
- Captured by Orcs!
- Sophia attacks the hound with her small blade but the hound dodges back just in time. The hound lets out a massive roar, calling its masters.
- Sophia begins running but becomes ensared in a bear-trap! The hound stands alert guarding its victim, awaiting dilligently for the Orc patrol to return.
- FAILURE. Sophia has perished.
- 3 Hide: Stay hidden! (Total 15 energy +15exp )
- Awaiting safety.
- Sophia decides to wait until morning. Orcs on patrol in elven lands this close to Triste surely cannot be a good sign! Where are the Elven Waywatchers protecting the roads and woods?
- As the sun peaks over the misted forest Sophia continues on her journey to Triste.

- Sophia fights to survive!
- Sophia quickly brandishes her small elven blade her father had given her, and braces for what may come. Three large hulking figures loom ahead of her on the road. As they approach closer Sophia sees they have cruel looking axes and skulls attached to their belts. These must be Orcs! The Orcs rush Sophia with their weapons drawn. Sophia parries the first few blows but one manages to slice into her side. A boot kicks Sophia to knees as a massive axe prepares for the final blow. Sophia suddenly feels something, powerful emanating from within:

- A mysterious power.
- Sophia resists the powers emanating from within, fearing something terrible would happen. Death perhaps would be a more welcome relief than succumbing to dark magic!
- The massive axe connects and Sophia's life is ended. The Fey peoples are surely doomed!
- FAILURE.

- Encounter with a snow yeti cub.
- After a night's travel through the misted woods, Sophia seems to be making great progress. Traveling the wilds is not as dangerous as her parents had led her to believe! After squeezing through a particularly tough batch of vines Sophia emerges with her first real encounter, a large white fluffy animal staring straight at her standing about 3 feet high. :It seems to notice the smoked fish in Sophia's satchel!
- Sopiha heard tales of such animals and none ended happily.. she considered her options carefully:
- 2 Walk: Walk Away. Uses 5 Energy. (Total: 10 Energy, +10 Exp, )
- Meeting the waywatchers.
- Sophia backs away from the young yeti cub and tries to retrace her steps. As she hikes through the winding trails she feels as if someone is watching! A group of waywatchers drop down from the trees above.
- "Greetings my lady, my name is Lothar, a master of the elven waywatchers. You have earned our respects, not everyone would have the knowledge to simply ignore the young cubs. Fighting full grown yetis are not something you want to get involved with! They are very protective of their young." Lothar took a moment to reflect.
- "I must confess however, we have been tracking you since you left the sanctuary. Orcs patrol the passes my lady, and the Elven King requests an audience. Please come with us." Sophia agrees and the group heads towards Triste.

- 2 Feed: Feed the Cub! (Total: 10 Energy, +10 Exp, , -)
- Feeding the cub.
- Sophia opts to give what she believes to be a snow yeti cub some of her food. She unwraps her smoked salmon and tosses it towards the cub. The small yeti eagerly snatches the fish and begins gnawing at it. Sophia takes a moment to watch and observe, rarely getting the chance to see such wildlife.
- 3 Observe: Continue to observing. (Total: 10 Energy, +10 Exp, )
- Yeti mother approaches!
- As Sophia watches the cub eat the fish, its mother fast approaches, crashing through the trees. A massive ten foot tall snow yeti looms over Sophia and the cub. Sophia remains perfectly still, her instincts telling her running would not end favorably.
- The giant yeti sniffs at the fish, sniffs at the cub, then looks towards Sophia. Sophia feels energy swirling from within... ready to unleash!
- 4 Use: Use Power! (Total: 15 Energy, +15 Exp, )
- Arcane Explosion!
- Sophia decides to unleash the arcane powers screaming to explode forth. Time seems to come to a crawl. Sophia feels energy crackling around and within her as violet swirls of old magic ripple outwards, slowly building into a massive concussive blast. Within moments the Yeti mother is sent flying back through the trees, lit on fire and screaming. The young cub is nowhere to be found.
- Sophia takes a moment to rest, feeling completely drained. What just happened? Suddenly the giant Yeti comes crashing back through the foilage... charred and burnt but still alive!
- 5 Fight: Fight! (Total: 15 Energy, +15 Exp, )
- Battle the yeti.
- The snow yeti charges Sophia, terrified and angry at the same time. With wild slashes and little thought to its own safety, Sophia is able to dodge the blows. Sophia lunges her small sword into the beast further damaging it. The yeti refuses to fall and continues its barrage of attacks. Sophia summons forth her powers again, unleashing a terrible blast of pure arcane magic. The yeti finally falls to the ground.
- 6 Continue: Continue. (Total: 15 Energy, +15 Exp)
- The waywatchers.
- As Sophia regains her senses she finds herself with arrows notched and pointed at her, from shapeless forms in the trees above.
- "Stranger you are to be taken under arms, for the slaughter of the native Yeti in this region. We are waywatchers from Triste, and this is the King's land. You will abide by our laws. Do you come willingly or shall we put you to rest?"
- 7 Refuse: Refuse! (Total: 10 Energy, +10 Exp, )
- Death by arrows!
- Sophia once again tries to summon her new found powers but before she can concentrate she feels the painful punctures of multiple arrows slamming into her body. She falls to the ground silenced forever.
- FAILURE!

- Sophia is escorted to the gates of Triste bound, a prisoner of the waywatchers. As Sophia is brought to the elven justicar, she is given a fine of 50 gold for breaking the King's law of slaying protected wildlife.
"Next time Sophia, respect nature.. and especially respect the Yetis! They are a dying breed much like yourself. Our Elven King Corelan has requested an audience with you my lady. The waywatchers will see you arrive in time."

- A rare gift...
- Sophia decides to supress her powers, not wanting to harm the innocent yeti of the region. The giant snow yeti stomps towards Sophia, its breath reeking of flesh and its sharp teeth glaring from behind its mouth. In a surprisng act, the mother yeti plucks off a tooth from its barbaric necklace and thrusts it over to Sophia. She carefully accepts the "gift" and watches the yeti and her cub crash off into the thickets of trees.
- Sophia examines the tooth and realizes it is from a red dragon!

- Sophia realizes someone is watching! A group of waywatchers drop down from the trees above.
- "Greetings my lady, my name is Lothar, a master of the elven waywatchers. You have earned our respects, not everyone would have the courage to stand their ground against the snow yeti of the hills. It would appear you have been given a truly special gift! I must confess, we have been tracking you since you left the sanctuary. Orcs patrol the passes my lady, and the Elven King requests an audience. Please come with us."
