Four runes exist to augment equipment: Attack Rune, Defense Rune, Damage Rune and Health Rune. All characters have all four runes. They all start at level 1, which confers no bonuses. The higher the level of the rune, the greater the bonus. Attack and defense runes work in all facets of the game. Damage and Health runes are restricted to guild formats at this time.

Leveling a Rune Edit
To level a rune, you must obtain rune essence via questing, monster hunting, or the Conquest Path Shop. Once you obtain a minimum of 200 rune essence of a specific type, you can level that type of rune by trading your accumulated rune essences to guilds in the Trade Market for rune experience (see Rune Bonuses for XP needed to increase bonuses). Each trade grants your rune 1000 XP (unless you have a bonus available).
Using a Rune Edit
Runes only confer bonuses when both of the following are done:
- The rune is forged onto equipment.
- Runes are restricted to which item type they can be applied to, as described here.
- You may only have one rune forged onto a specific item at a time.
- That equipment is equipped (through a load-out or the class page).
Runes will continue to upgrade and increase in level (via trading essences) once they are forged onto a piece of equipment; it's not necessary to re-forge them each time they increase in level.
Salvaging equipment with a rune already forged (for example, to forge it onto another piece of equipment) does not destroy the rune (unlike forged gems and ingots). Runes are persistent, and can never be destroyed or lost, nor lose levels.
Rune Bonuses Edit
As a rune increases in level, so does the bonus that is received from having it equipped. The following table shows those bonuses through Rune Level 25, followed by formulas for calculating for any level. In addition, runes affect some Class abilities (see following section).
|1||0 (start)||+0 Attack||+0 Defense||+0 Damage||+0 Health|
|2||300 XP||+5 Attack||+5 Defense||+4 Damage||+4 Health|
|3||1,000 XP||+10 Attack||+10 Defense||+8 Damage||+8 Health|
|4||3,000 XP||+15 Attack||+15 Defense||+12 Damage||+12 Health|
|5||6,000 XP||+20 Attack||+20 Defense||+16 Damage||+16 Health|
|6||10,000 XP||+25 Attack||+25 Defense||+20 Damage||+20 Health|
|7||15,000 XP||+30 Attack||+30 Defense||+24 Damage||+24 Health|
|8||21,000 XP||+35 Attack||+35 Defense||+28 Damage||+28 Health|
|9||22,326 XP||+40 Attack||+40 Defense||+32 Damage||+32 Health|
|10||27,563 XP||+45 Attack||+45 Defense||+36 Damage||+36 Health|
|11||33,351 XP||+50 Attack||+50 Defense||+40 Damage||+40 Health|
|12||39,690 XP||+55 Attack||+55 Defense||+44 Damage||+44 Health|
|13||46,581 XP||+60 Attack||+60 Defense||+48 Damage||+48 Health|
|14||54,023 XP||+65 Attack||+65 Defense||+52 Damage||+52 Health|
|15||62,016 XP||+70 Attack||+70 Defense||+56 Damage||+56 Health|
|16||70,560 XP||+75 Attack||+75 Defense||+60 Damage||+60 Health|
|17||79,656 XP||+80 Attack||+80 Defense||+64 Damage||+64 Health|
|18||89,303 XP||+85 Attack||+85 Defense||+68 Damage||+68 Health|
|19||99,501 XP||+90 Attack||+90 Defense||+72 Damage||+72 Health|
|20||110,250 XP||+95 Attack||+95 Defense||+76 Damage||+76 Health|
|21||121,551 XP||+100 Attack||+100 Defense||+80 Damage||+80 Health|
|22||133,403 XP||+105 Attack||+105 Defense||+84 Damage||+84 Health|
|23||145,806 XP||+110 Attack||+110 Defense||+88 Damage||+88 Health|
|24||158,760 XP||+115 Attack||+115 Defense||+92 Damage||+92 Health|
|25||172,266 XP||+120 Attack||+120 Defense||+96 Damage||+96 Health|
The formulas for bonuses are:
- Attack = (Level-1)*5
- Defense = (Level-1)*5
- Damage = (Level-1)*4
- Health = (Level-1)*4
The XP required for levels above Level 10 closely follow the formula:
- 27563 + ((Level-10)*5788) + (((Level-10)*(Level-11)/2)*551.27)
Note: There is no level cap that's been reached quite yet, though the developers have stated that there is one. Players have leveled up runes as far as level 436 so far. It appears the above formulas for Attack, Defense, Damage, and Health continue indefinitely.
Rune Influence on Class Abilities Edit
The following table indicates which Class abilities are modified based on runes. Some are modified based on caster's runes and some are based on the recipient's runes. Refer to the specific ability for details.
