Monster Medals are medals that you can earn by defeating Monsters. Depending on how fast you defeat a monster, you can earn a gold, silver, or bronze medal (or no medal at all). When you earn a gold medal, you will also earn skill point(s). Note that the medal system is different than Achievements.
Important note: Medals will not be awarded for monsters completed outside of the standard "Battle Monster" tab. This means that both Festival Monsters (those from the Tower of Transcendence, both I and II) and Guild Expansion monsters (from Guild Conquest) will not give you a gold medal if you complete them within 24 hours.
To earn a gold medal 
you must defeat a monster within 24 hours of the monster being summoned. You must also put in a decent effort into taking down the monster. Each monster requires you to do a minimum amount of damage, or spend a minimum amount of stamina, to earn a medal. The specific damage/stamina needed is somewhat unknown, but if you deal at least the following amount of damage, you will earn a gold medal:

†Dragons, Gildamesh and Colossus were changed from Stamina-based monsters to Damage-based monsters on 2/23/2014. Values are currently projected as 2.5% of their updated total health, with Dragons and Gildamesh having some confirmation of the new requirements.
Notes
- Everyone who does the minimum damage/stamina required will be awarded a gold medal if the monster dies within 24 hours.
- Healing, fortifying, dispelling, strengthening, crippling, deflecting, or any other activity that uses energy instead of stamina, does not contribute to receiving a gold medal.
- Skill Points are only awarded the first time you earn a gold medal from any monster.
- Silver or bronze medals are awarded when the required amounts of damage is dealt, but the monster is not killed in 24 hours. They do not provide any rewards other than verification that you had enough damage.
- Gold medals are not awarded if the kill is a Festival Monster. This also means there is never a gold medal for Agamemnon, the Overseer and Alexandra, the Unbreakable.
- With changes to Keira (in re: loot drops) now being damage based, gold medal is likely changed, but no information as yet *aug 27, 2013
