Attack monster button3

Fortifying is a type of defense during a battle or against a monster that heals something the monster is trying to destroy and depends on the Stat defense Defense stat of the defender plus any bonuses from heroes, soldiers, weapons, armor, or magic.

Unlike Attacking, fortifying does not get any bonuses from the defender's Elite Guard and cannot get a CRITICAL effect.

Normal

The primary type of fortifying uses Stat energy 10 energy and the amount varies also depending on the battle or monster.

In early May 2010, the button style for the regular 10x energy cost Fortify to certain newer bosses (Genesis) changed.

In mid May 2010, a 20x, 40x, and 100x energy Fortify option were added along with scroll arrow buttons due to the addition of so many new buttons. A player's maximum stamina determines which Fortify buttons he/she sees, however direct attack links can allow you to "use" the buttons which are not visible to you.

Special

The Bahamut, the Volcanic Dragon fight introduced new types of defense based on the class chosen by the attacker.

In mid July 2010, along with Alpha Mephistopheles, two new classes were added: Ranger & Warlock! Rangers have the skills of a Warrior & Rogue, while Warlocks have the abilities of a Cleric and Mage. To get either one, you must be Level 3 in the two classes from which their abilities stem.

Cripple - Prevents the monster from healing himself.

Deflect - Prevents the monster from using it's special attack.
