Under the Gift tab (used to be Army tab), there is a tab labeled "Send Gifts". Sending gifts will allow you to give your friends Alchemy items. There used to be a limit of 6 categories to give, which give unique alchemy items. From the January 14, 2010 to about May 20, 2010, new gifts are added without removal of old gifts. From then up until June 22, 2010 a maximum of 18 were available with the oldest "Limited" gift removed when a new one arrives. On June 22, 2010, the maximum gift types available was increased to 19. By 25 May 2011 there are 33 gift types available.
To give a gift, you must first select the gift, then select what kind of friend you are sending it to.
"Sort by: All Friends" contains a list of all your friends, not including the people in your army. You can use this to invite a friend into your army and give them an alchemy gift instead of a gift soldier.
"Castle Age Friends" contains a list of all your Facebook friends who play Castle Age (who allow application access), whether they are in your army yet or not. Members of your army who are no longer your Facebook friends will not show up here or under "All Friends", meaning you will be unable to exchange gifts with them.
Current gifting limits are 20 Gifts (facebook), and 50 Gifts (Web3).
It isn't stated (and shown with the gift icon) in the game that these pieces are obtainable via gifting (other than being one of Skaar Deathrune's drop).

Notes[]
The gifts section on iPhone have different gifts available. As of June 6, 2011 there are still available discontinued gifts like Mystery armor!, Cid Saber Shard!, Crimson DaggerGift! while the newer ones are still not implemented like Mystery Tome. Gift sent on iPhone must be received on iPhone as well but once received they show up also on Facebook.
I have recently (today is 3-24-2011) noticed a bug in the gifting program which keeps random gifts from being sent, although they appear to have been. (This bug may be a recent as the latest update, or as old as the game, I suppose.) When sending multiple gifts of one type you may get the correct message "X gifts have been sent" yet check the Sent Gifts tab to find that one or more has NOT been sent. Since a group of Gifts are sorted alphabetically by name as they are sent and, if this happens, it is generally the last one or two in the list, it is usually easy to spot. In addition to the "last" glitch, names using more than one or two non-English characters also seem to drop. But only if sent with a group. I have not found that any gift sent to any single individual ever fails in this way. Or, possibly these gifts are actually sent, and just fail to register in the 'Sent Gifts' tab?
If you have a gift alert on your Army page you can't just seem to accept because there is no request listed on the Facebook page, you can fix the bug by doing the following:
Find the user's ID by clicking on the name. It should say something like:
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=#########
Copy the numbers.
If the ID is in the 'name' format, just right-click on the profile picture and open it in a new tab. The same number ID will be present in between a dot and a &type=.
Open the following link in a new tab (by right-clicking) and replace FACEBOOKID with the number ID found in the previous step:
Hit [Go] / [Enter] / whatever it takes for you to go to that new link we just created in the second step. You should now see the proper notification that you have accepted the gift from the user, and the seemingly nonexistent gift alert will now be gone.
Another option to this, but the alternative is quicker and leads to the same end:
On your army page...you will have the person(s) not showing up in the Facebook acceptance area listed there. Right-click on Ignore beneath their picture and name and select (Copy Shortcut) for Internet Explorer or (Copy Link Location) for Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. Go to the address bar and Paste the link, which will look like this:
